A Few Things

Hello Friends! I really enjoyed this week. Ben Blair and I started each workday with a planning meeting and I felt like I was much more on top of my tasklist. A great feeling! Although. We also concluded that there is more work to be done than I can do, so I’m going to hire an assistant. Do you live in South Denver? Are you super organized? Do you love things like blogging and Twitter and Facebook? Send me an email at gabrielle@designmom.com and let’s chat. [Update: Thanks for all the assistant-related emails — you guys are the best! I will try to respond this week.]

While I ponder what it will be like to have an assistant, here are a few things I’ve been wanting to share with you:

-Love this camera illustration.
-A quirky and charming nursery — yellow shutters!
First salon visit — her expression is priceless.
That tent!
-What do you think of this umbrella case?
-Have you ever donated breastmilk?
Uncovering the path.
Miles away from everything.

I write a daily post for Babble’s Family Style blog. Here are this week’s posts:
-Would you rather receive flowers or an elephant?
Foxes are the new hedgehog.
-Will this sweet wallet inspire your kids to save?
Shakespeare at your fingertips.
Sandwich puzzles? How cute!

I hope you have a wonderful weekend. I’ll meet you back here on Monday. I miss you already. Oh! I forgot to tell you. Next week is Ask Design Mom Week. I’ll be posting great reader questions every day. Put on your thinking caps, because I’ll need your brilliant answers!

  1. i love this video.
it was fun, encouraging, helpful and inspiring!
i do have to tell you that i have absolutely loved reading your blog from my first peek. you're doing so well! keep it up!
    :)

  2. Thanks for all the great inspiration today. Loved the Studio Five interview and breakdown on the Mayflower project. Learned a lot and gained a bit of confidence too.

  3. I can't tell you how thankful I am that you posted the video about getting your blog started. Although I've been blogging since 2004, under a couple different blog names, I felt like I kept jumping from on to another. I am struggling with the right type of blog and just ended up with a random format for family and friends to keep up with our life in CO. I'm not sure how to branch out, to create a blog that can turn into a career. I write every morning, sometimes even three times a day. I am a part-time art teacher and would like for my passion of blogging to become something more substantial. Do you have any more advice for those of us in this situation? Thank you! Have a brilliant party!

  4. Great round-up! Thanks for sharing those links. Nice interview, btw! You did great. Happy weekend and good luck on the bday party. My boy has his party next weekend. I have turned into a last-minute gal…aaaggghhh!

  5. designmom, I think you did a good job with the Mayflower posts, though I must say that I was wondering how on earth you managed to keep blogging through your move–you seem to have held everything together admirably during the process. I think the Mayflower product placement was clever and well done.

  6. Loved reading your interviews. Especially the work-life balance one. So glad you shared the link. That's a keeper! Admiring you from my little corner of the blog world!

  7. So many inspiring links this week, I bookmarked several things. Loving it! It's been a crazy week for us too. Lots of appointments across town, birthday party, writing deadlines, etc. So happy it is the weekend now. I feel like I can breathe again.

  8. I think you should go to the hot springs. I have been to Telluride and it is amazing! In fact, you need to explore the whole San Jaun Mountain range in Colorado…it is a great road trip and beautiful. Go to Durango, Ouray, and Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Monument. I lived in the Denver Metro area for 2.5 years and loved it! I am not sure how long you have lived in Colorado, but I sure do miss it.

  9. I feel your pain, my week was a chaotic swirl. I came home from the office at 9 or so last night, kissed my husband and fell straight into bed. Reading your blog is a tiny oasis of sweetness and calm, thank you for sharing your lovely voice and discerning eye with all of us! Have a great weekend and happy bday to Ben Blair.

  10. Oh,your blog is very nice .I really like it ^^!

Welcome to my website : http://9wallpapers.blogspot.com. This is a website where have a lot of beautiful wallpapers . Especially , all free !!!!

  11. Wish I hadn't started to watch the Ikea Heights.

Here's a FOUL LANGUAGE heads up for the rest of you who don't like to hear that kind of talk.

  12. Not what I expected in Ikea heights–didn't finish–you should rate it for those of us who don't like to listen to the F word.

  13. Hee . . when I clicked over to the 'diaper and carrier in one' link, I was expecting to be grossed out just a wee bit.

But it's a diaper BAG and carrier . . ok, that makes more sense!

    :)

  14. Yeah, on the Ikea Heights, I watched a couple of minutes of episode 3 (happened to be the first one I decided to watch) until the guy started flipping through a porno magazine with a full on topless shot. Yeah, not quite what I wanted to see. Especiallly with little ones around. While I think the concept is fab, I have to ask if you really like this? or did they pay you a little fee to mention them? Either way maybe a "not safe for work" mention would be good.

  15. Don't know if you realized this but that Ikea Heights show has the "f" word spoken twice in the first 30 seconds! YIKES!! DOn't know if it improves from that point onward, but I didn't stick around to find out. Glad my kids weren't hanging on me while I was watching.

  16. Thanks so much for linking to my photo :) So happy you like it. MY Mom has a collection of about 100 eggs, so I just had to photograph the best.
I cannot wait to go check out that Ikea show…thanks for the link.
    Happy Weekend.

  17. My grandmother passed on the tradition of making Pysanky (Ukranian Easter Eggs) – something I look forward to doing every year. I'm sure you're kids would have a blast making them – I'd suggest ordering a kit that comes with everything (beeswax, dyes, instructions & more than 1 kistka (the writing tool).

  18. I'm actually putting on an Easter Egg family workshop at our gallery this year, and in the spirit of the exhibiting artists it's going to be a mixed media extravaganza! I'm thinking of wrapping the eggs in rope, decoupaging them, rag tying them.. I'm on the lookout for other 'fine art' ideas, so pass them along! Oh, and the diaper bag/carrier, can you say HUGE fannypack? :)

  19. I love the idea of the diaper bag and carrier in one…very smart thinking. BUT, I just have to say that I personally have found hip carriers to be fairly uncomfortable with just the baby's weight alone…plus the bag (don't know about yours, but mine is heavier than it should be ;)!)…just might not work. Love the thinking, though.

thanks, as always, for the great links and photos!!
