What to Wear When You’re Expecting

Today I am 25 weeks pregnant. Only 15 to go! (Although really, I’m not in any big hurry.) I’ve been trying to keep a record of some of my favorite outfits during this pregnancy. Here are five:

Tuxedo Jacket at Macy’s Juniors Dept — not maternity. Tee by H&M.; Tie by Brooks Brothers (via Ben Blair’s closet). Pants by Nine Times Three (more on them later, they are my fave pants). Shoes by Guess.

Sweater by Gap. (Not maternity.) Skinny jeans by Gap Maternity. Shoes by Jessica Simpson.

Dress and coordinating jacket/robe from Target Maternity — saved from past pregnancies. Belt and tights — I can’t remember. Hmmm. Shoes by Guess.

Dress by Gap Maternity. Just bought this a week ago — it was $13. Score! Belt by who knows? (The dress comes with a sash, but I liked this better.) Tights, probably from Walgreens. Boots by Nine West (they are at least a decade old).

Pants, cowlneck, and wrap all from Gap Maternity. (Wow. I’ve had good luck there.) Shoes by Biviel. Total side note: I heart the way my bottom looks in these pants — I should get a picture of that. For posterity. : )

Mom, you can see lots more photos here.

What about you Dear Readers? Seen any great maternity clothes lately? How do you like to dress when you’re expecting — are you all about comfort? Do you incorporate non-maternity pieces into your wardrobe?

  1. You are so lucky to be pregnant in winter – no flappy arms in sleeveless outfits! My favorite is the urban cozy outfit with the skinny jeans and sweater. You are bringing back so many memories for me with these pregancy posts. Like when walking to the gay pride parade with my friends…I was 5 months pregnant with twins but HUGE already (I'm only 5' 2"). I wore crispy white jeans with a black tank top and colorful flip flops. I was thinking how cute I looked as I walked out the door. My brutally honest friend was walking behind me on the sidewalk when I heard silence. Since this is a state my friend is rarely in, I had to look back and see what crazy sight had made her lose her powers of speech. There she was, just staring at…..me! "Oh my God, your ass is HUGE!," she said.

  2. I've for sure been going the comfy route this pregnancy, and have yet to find a dress that I like (only 4 weeks left!). Black pants from Target, basics from Old Navy maternity, a great sweater that goes with everything from Destination Maternity, and fabulous accessories from Forever 21 have been my saving grace. I had gotten in a rut of almost no accessories save my wedding ring before I got pregnant, so pregnancy has really re-kindled my love for special headbands, huge rings, and floral brooches. I feel like I'm in college again! :o)

  3. Gabby, you look so freaking hot in the gap sweater & skinnies! You're one of those women that just rocks at being pregnant. This is starting to get me excited for bebezinho #2.

  4. Wow!! You look fantastic – not just for being pregnant, but in general. In a totally stylish but effortless way. Should I be expecting again, you've inspired me to look beyond the stretchy, slouchy stuff I wore before. kVery classy!

  5. You look absolutely amazing in every outfit! I loved loved loved the Gap sweater! It looks so comfy and cozy! I also love the khaki (tan) dress from GapMaternity with the belt and the boots paired with it! Next pregnancy I'll have to try Gap Maternity. I spent my entire pregnancy in oversized T-shirts and pants (definite fashion faux pas looking back on it!) Thanks for sharing your style =)

  6. I liked being pregnant during the winter months. I took advantage of all of the great sweaters and jackets! I DID NOT like being pregnant in the summer….

  7. You look terrific! Love the dresses, and your whole sense of style. I generally wear alot of elastic waist skirts, whether they're maternity or not, with leggings. I generally give in to wearing maternity shirts, but I do try to stretch my Shade shirts as far as they'll go! :)

I've been eyeing the Blush Topless Undershirts for awhile, and since I'm now expecting my 3rd, I need some! Especially for when I'm nursing – I hate how my shirts always ride up in back and expose too much of my backside. :) These are a PERfect solution! Have you seen/heard of them??

  8. I've been waiting for a post like this!! You have such a fabulous sense of style, and I knew you'd come through with maternity-wear, too! I'm just starting my pregnancy and in a completely different season than my last, so I need all the help I can get! Best of luck- you look amazing!

  9. Wow, you look great. I was all about keeping costs down, since I knew the pieces wouldn't get much use. But it was depressing going around looking like a big barrel. Towards the end I splurged some, but didn't have anything like these outfits! I'd love to find a good consignment maternity source.

  10. Agreed! Your accessories add such a zesty flair to outfits that would still be beautiful without them. The color of your tights, the skinny belts, the necklaces…glad to see so many women getting great ideas for how to snazz up their maternity and non-maternity clothes!

  11. You are too cute! I love the belt idea. I will definitely incorporate that in to my maternity wardrobe this go around (I'm 13 weeks on baby #4.)
I love incorporating non-maternity clothes into pregnant-wear. It's so fun to get creative!

  12. Just found your blog. I love the pink/purple tights: bold and sassy. And, dare I say, braver than I am. I hope to be more so as my pregnancy progresses. I've been hiding behind oversized coats because I was still at the awkward in between stage.

  13. i really like a slim trouser/pant when pregnant as i think it balances out the pregnant silhouette! i am 39 weeks now…www.reasonigetupinthemorning.blospot.com just stopped posting as iam super nesting now. x

  14. Oh, this is so inspiring. I am 24 weeks pregnant with my fourth, and got rid of all my maternity clothes after my third, so have been cobbling together some wacky outfits. My general go-to outfit is a denim skirt, long-sleeved t-shirt, non-maternity cardigan, and big fuzzy boots. But I'm in Maine and sometimes this outfit is just too cold. I'm just trying to make it through the next sixteen weeks, and then hopefully quickly return to more fashionable digs…though your post is making me consider dresses.

  15. hi! i am a troll reader, and never really comment, but i really love the way you look. and i love that YOU love the way you look. my hubby and i have been talking about trying to have our 2nd next month, and this post totally made me think, "HELL YA" i can get "fat" again. lol. you look beautiful… and totally stylish. i'm thinking that hot pink tights might look silly on me. lol. but i want to be pregnant and wear them anyway. :) *sigh*

  16. Tanya and Colin

Hot Mama! Thanks for sharing. I always seel so frumpy during pregnancy, but you have given me hop that I don't have too!

  17. I'm seeing this post way late in Google Reader, but just wanted to say that you look so cute and stylin!! I'm not preggo, but I have to admit that I felt like my outfits looked better when I was. I wonder why that is?

  18. I just stumbled across this post from a past one, and was so excited to see your pink tights!! I bought some on clearance at Old Navy a year or so ago, but my husband refuses to let me wear them to church until he sees another adult wearing them…Now I have proof :)
