Tall House Updates: The Original Doorbell, Bathroom & Kitchen Updates, and an Upcycled Window

After a slow summer, work on the Tall House has started up again. I’ve got so much to tell you about! If you’ve been missing out on the Instagram highlights, this post will catch you up on several recent projects.

We’ve been living in the house for several weeks now, but things are still somewhat unfinished. I thought it would be fun to give you a tour of the parents bathroom and show you what we are still working on.

Some Q&A about the bathroom:

The cabinetry in the kitchen is officially finished! We were waiting on one last piece — the doors for the appliance pantry. Here’s how they turned out:

This series shows how we installed a window and saved it from the landfill:

We restored and re-hung the original doorbell and it might be the most charming bit of the house!

I’m loving all this progress. We’re getting closer and closer to a finished entry, a finished kitchen, and finished bathrooms.

P.S. — More Tall House updates.

  1. I’m so inspired by your design decisions and how you embrace the imperfections of your historic home. I hope you are complimented when I say that this home is one of the best expressions of wabi-sabi I have seen in a western home. It has been such fun to follow along!

  2. Dear Gabrielle, this seems almost silly to type…but here I go! YOU CAN DO IT, AND YOU ARE STRONG BRILLIANT AND RESILIENT! I have remodeled many homes while living in, and I was raised in a family of five kids with a handyman as a father. The last 20% can take 80% of the effort, and I just wanted you to know that I’m here cheering you on!
