By Gabrielle. Ruler height chart here.
It’s official. We measured last night, and Ralph Blair has passed me up in height.
My child is taller than me!
I suppose I knew this would happen. But it sort of crept up on me. And it’s kind of a novelty! So strange to know we no longer look like this. Or this. It makes me so curious about what the final height order will be once all my kids are done growing. I don’t remember exactly when I passed up my own mother in height — and I never caught up to my dad.
Height is a funny thing. I am average height at 5′ 6″, but I always thought of myself as tall. In fact, I had two taller-than-average friends in high school and I remember seeing myself in photos with them and being surprised I was shorter. Hah!
How about you? Are you taller than your mom or your dad? Or your brothers and sisters? Have your kids passed you up in height? Or do you expect them too?
P.S. — Growing up, my family had a doorjamb where we marked the kids’ heights. You too? But alas, with our own kids, we’ve moved often enough, we’ve never had a permanent home for our height marks.
My grandfather is 6.1 ,me and my dad are 5.5 what is the problem between us
Maybe shorter grandparents. I would say it depends where you are from as I am a British national living in Edinburgh,Scotland. The thing is my family and I are from Hong Kong. All of us are short no one taller than 5’1 and that is our dad. My mum is 4’10 she never wears high shoes as she can’t be taller than dad. I am 17 now and my height is 4’11 my sister is 22 and she is 5’3. She gets told all the time not too wear high shoes as it put 2/3 inches above dad. She is already 2 ins on him another 3 would not be good. When I am asked why I’m shorter I just say well I’m taller than my mum . My sister is taller probably because she is older. Also people from Hong Kong or China even are of short as of short stature. So I have to live with itm
My daughter came home from school the other day all upset. She is 8 and the teacher did the height of all the class. She said she was the shortest and the then younger pupils were calling her names. I am barely 5’0 so I am the shortest mum waiting for the kids to come out. I generally am stuck at the back so I have to wait ages for my turn. Even if I am the first there the others just push past. I knew she was shorter than her friends. My husband is 5’5 so we didn’t expect giants. The thing is our son who is 6 is already taller than his sister. She usually never let’s things get her down . She doesn’t like the name calling but the younger pupils. She says the boys are OK it is just the girls. They always stand near her and says things like why are you so short. Munchkin is their word . I have a feeling that she may be under 5’0. We will see…
Being short never really bothered me most of the time I enjoyed the attention. Of course genetics are involved. Mother was 5’2 and father was 5’5. My height is 4’10 and I’m 18. My sister is 15 and 5’0 and my brother is 21 and 5’6. I realised when I was 8 and most of my class were taller than me. There were 4 of us that were short. At high school I must have stopped growing age 13. I still remember when the school did our heights the first year I was one of the shortest. Then the last year there ended up being 10 of us all under 5’0. Also 2 of them were boys they used to hate going through this ritual. I feel that my sister has not done growing she just looks like she may get abit taller. I have 3 cousins that are short like me. I have 2 lovely grandmother’s and both are short so maybe I took after them. I still like being short though. I don’t mind wearing clothes aged 13/14 they just seem better..
My daughter age 8 came home from school last week saying she didn’t want to go back to school. She said her class had a school photo done and she said she was told to stand at the front with the shorter pupils. In all there were 6 pupils that were quite abit shorter than the rest. They then lined up short to tall and she was the shortest. After that some of the younger pupils were calling the short pupils babies. 2 if the short boys in her class started fighting the younger boys. The younger boys came off worse. We also have a 6 year old son who is also our daughter’s height. The short pupils are given a stool to rest their feet on to stop them dangling. I did notice that she was one of the shortest but just thought she would catch up. I mean I am nearly 5’0 and my husband is 5’6. We have had tests done on her and we were told her predicted height is going to be 4’9 max. So now she does a gymnastics club and she is very happy. She is so good and all the group are all short boys and girls. Even the 3 adults running the club. There are 2 women both 4’10 and a man he is 5’0. All very good at it. I did ask them if doing this will it affect the children’s height. I was told it could due to how it affects their bodies. I asked my daughter if she wanted to carry on if it affects her height and she still wants to. Has she said that if we all end up being short then it would be all of them..that was her foresight on it. ..
I only wish I was 5’6 it was never going to happen..I only managed a height of 5’0. I’m also the oldest and shortest. My sisters are bith 5’4 and my brother is 5’7. My husband is 5’6 and we have a son who is 5’9 and our daughter is short. She is 4’10 but so are alot of her friends. She used to have bad days when she was younger. In the end she was happy with our it turned out.
