A Few Things

Hello, Friends. How are you? How are you holding up? I’ve found it pretty impossible to think about anything but the murders in Atlanta. To all my Asian friends and those who are in my community, I’m sorry this is happening. And I’m sorry so many people are doing mental gymnastics to sympathize with the killer. #StopAsianHate

On Instagram (in posts and stories), I’ve been sharing thoughts and collecting commentary (I’ll share some below).

In not-awful news, it’s still coats-needed weather here, but our tulip bulbs are coming up, and the trees are thinking about blossoming. Feels like Spring is right around the corner.

In the mood for a link list? Here are a few things I’ve wanted to share:

61 Ways to Donate in Support of Asian Communities.

-Had a really great podcast conversation with Clint Harp (from Fixer Upper). We talked about the role of women within the Mormon church, how our society prioritizes male pleasure, the stigma of condoms and vasectomies, and that one time I had to sing the Star-Spangled Banner a capella. His podcast is called Man unMade.

-“I graduated with $78k in debt 14 years ago, paid off $60k and now owe $100k.”

-This week a man was arrested outside of Vice President Kamala Harris’ official residence with an assault rifle and a lot of ammo, among other things.

-Nearly 73% of women exonerated since 1989 were wrongfully convicted of crimes that never took place — such as events determined to be accidents, deaths by suicide, and crimes that were fabricated.

-Nice comparison of where Republicans spent $1.9T and where Democrats spent $1.9 trillion.

Stay up as late as you want… if you’re reading.

-Airlines got $50 billion in taxpayer bailouts. They say that saved 75,000 jobs. That’s $660,000 per job. Where did the rest go?

-The pure joy of “Waffles + Mochi”.

-I’ve tried a few YA series to ease myself back into fiction reading. I really enjoyed the Shadow & Bone Trilogy (and the two Six of Crows books too). And I thought the Scythe Trilogy were total page turners.

Here are a few tweets I saved for you:

-I’m going to start with two collections of commentary about the murders in Atlanta.

-An extraordinary thread. I hope you’ll read it.

-Thoughts on the “border crisis”.

-For the record, I fully support Cuomo resigning.

This is so terrific.

-Any predictions on what will happen with the filibuster?

-The support for raising the minimum wage is nationwide.

Sounds good to me.

Hahahaha.

This is me.

I hope you have a good weekend. I’ll meet you back here on Monday. I miss you already.

kisses,
Gabrielle

  1. Thank you for sharing about Atlanta…it’s, once again, a slap to the soul. As an Asian American woman, I feel many layers from the rise of AAPI hate crimes. Thank you for all you do!
