Hello, Friends. How are you doing? Was it a good week? I was flying high this week from the response to my Book Pre-Order announcement. The next day I found out the book was listed in the #1 spot on the best seller list in Amazon’s Home Decor category. Woo hoo! I know it may only last a day, but I’ll take it. : ) Also, I know that it’s the direct result of your support and enthusiasm and I can’t thank you enough. Seriously. Thank you!
Now, let’s discuss the weekend. Any fun plans? We’ve got a pancake breakfast for the Scouts tomorrow morning, but other than that, I think we’ll just enjoy the rainy weather that has come our way. Rain sometimes feels like such a novelty here. But I’m happy for any excuse to wear my awesome rain boots. I get compliments on them all day long anytime I wear them!
I’m off to tackle my inbox, but before I go, here are a few things I’ve been wanting to share with you:
– An excellent essay on copying and copyright.
– My son Ralph sent me this short movie called Paint. It’s really good. You should totally show it to your kids.
– Periodic Table of Texting. I feel like I only know a handful of these.
– “What had we been expecting — a monster? ”
– Family detention camps. I’m ashamed to say I didn’t even know these existed.
– Feeling crummy? Try Skittles in water. Hah!
– I LOVE this behind the scenes look at the artwork in the Kid President book. So much attention to detail and so much creativity.
– She confronted her cruelest troll.
– Have you ever tried a no jeans challenge?
– A student’s life-changing trip to Tanzania (that’s my niece!).

The family photos are fabulous – love the look and that they’re in your home. You need to tell us about the swap of living/dining furniture. I noticed that in an earlier post. Loving the house tour and looking forward to more.
You’re right! I don’t think I mentioned it, but I should have. We moved things around so that we could fit the Christmas tree in the space in a better way. And we’ve left it like this to try it out, but I actually think I’m ready to switch it back again! Maybe this weekend.

Love the family photos. Where did you get the area rug in that room? I’m looking for something large and durable and that one looks like it would fit on both accounts. :)
The rug is from Lowe’s. It’s wool. I love the texture, it’s been easy to clean and the price is quite affordable for this size rug. I believe I link to it from the Living Room tour if you’d like the direct source.
All I can say is RAIN, YAY! We’ve been waiting too long!

Congrats on the book, that is so exciting! I’m definitely excited that it is all new content. I picked up a design book from a certain TV designer and was sad that it was basically recycled content.
I’m still loving all of the light and the arrangement of your seating in that window area. Reminds me of our couch with the big windows behind it. It’s my favorite spot in the house, aside from our bed, of course.

Thank you for posting about the detention camps. As an immigration attorney, I have been absolutely heartbroken by the treatment of women and child refugees and the lack of outcry as to what is happening in our names.
Olive looks so much older lately in photos and I wondered if she is wearing makeup… It got me thinking that you should do a post on your teens and how you figure out rules and determine what you allow them to do as they get older, just might be interesting!
I was overwhelmed and very upset by the detention camp article. I’m a New Zealander and had little to no knowledge about people attempting to make America their safe place, surrendering, being treated so horrendously and at times being sent back. Would there be anyway to aid these poor women and children during their time in the camps? I feel so powerless, to read an article like that, and then to not be able to do one little thing to help…

The detention camp article was truly eye opening. I can’t believe that those places exist. No one should be treated that way.
I guess I’m living the No Jeans Challenge! I own two pairs of jeans, solely because there are times when a pair of jeans is the only appropriate thing to wear. I hate wearing them; I think they’re uncomfortable. The waistband always digs in, making muffin-tops, or gaps in the back. They either have too much spandex (so they get loose and have to be adjusted all day) or too little spandex (and they look like men’s jeans). They look great, but aren’t worth the aggravation to me.
I live in leggings all winter and dresses the rest of the year. Way more comfortable.

I always thoroughly enjoy your ‘A few things’ posts – but I should know better by now than to open one of them while taking what was supposed to be a five minute break at work… The article about the detention camps was so sad and overwhelming. Here in Europe, Italy,Greece and Malta are struggling with ever increasing numbers of African refugees arriving in boat loads, only to end up in similar refugee camps. The rest of Europe seems to barely acknowledge the fact that this is happening, and turns a blind eye. ‘Out of sight, out of mind…’ Thank you for sharing the article. The only way we can even begin to fight the injustice and the indifference is by informing. On another note – loved the family pics!
